The 爆走黑料 Athletics Department has rolled out a new leadership group for student-athletes on campus, focused on providing听additional听leadership support training and boosting school spirit.听
The听Student-Athlete Leadership Team, or SALT, is launching this fall with 32 members. The idea for the group first came up when four student-athletes attended a leadership conference in the fall of 2025.听
鈥淲e had four female leaders at the conference, and they were talking to a few other peers and learned about their leadership groups,鈥 said Director of Athletics Jade Morris. 鈥淭he NCAA also requires colleges to have student-athlete advisory committees for group representation. This idea is blending those two together鈥攃reating a leadership group that can advocate for students and confront issues that student-athletes are facing.鈥听
Morris also noted that the group will play听a major role听in planning events like pep rallies听before听athletic games. SALT will work in conjunction with the Wildest Cats, the school鈥檚 spirit group.听
For the first year, the group will meet monthly and continue to听solicit听members to support the mission. The four students who originally pitched the idea to Morris鈥 Riley Stocker 鈥27, Addie Eakin 鈥27, Addison Perich 鈥27, and Mia Daley 鈥27鈥攚ill serve as听the group鈥檚 inaugural听leaders. The group plans to elect an executive board in the future, and to have one representative from each team in the group.听
One initial plan for the group is to conduct听captains鈥櫶齮raining for听student-athletes. Before each season, the group will bring in team captains from all levels to meet and discuss leadership听ideas.听
鈥淚t will be a great opportunity for them to learn and grow,鈥 Morris said. 鈥淭hey鈥檒l be able to talk through situations and focus on what it means to be a captain.鈥听
Morris said the formation of the group excites her as the school鈥檚 Director of Athletics, and the听initial听swell of support highlights how seriously听student-athletes听are taking their leadership roles on听campus.听
鈥淚鈥檓 really proud of the four girls that have stepped up to start leading this group,鈥 Morris said.听鈥淓veryone who signed up wants to create a better community鈥攏ot just in their own sports, but in the听school as a whole. They want to bring everyone together.鈥听
